package 'de' version mismatch

Me and my friend are trying to have multiplayer games of UT over the internet, but whenever he trys to join my server, he gets a package 'de' version mismatch error! He also gets that problem quite often when joining other multiplayer servers. Does anybody know how to remedy this?
Thanks.

that would be caused by the messed up de.u file in one of the bonus packs, best way to do this is uninstall ut and get all of the bonus pack non-umods and figure out which has de.u, and just not install that one

or at least thats what i'd try to do, good luck!

Nah man, yewnuhtee. What you do is go into the UnrealTournament/System folder and either delete or move (out of that folder) the de.u and de.int files. Then you will download them off of the server and have the correct versions.

More help

I have read some of the threads here on the two "de" files.
I normally host UT for a few friends that connect to me.

However today another guy is hosting, and I could not get in, and I got the screen that said version de mismatch.
I moved my two de files to a backup folder and then I was able to join into his game.

Then when I went to host a game, I got dumped to my desktop and an error message popped stating it could not find my de files.

Is there a workaround so I don't have to keep juggling my de files into and out of my system folder?

How about I either email him my two good de files, or him email me his?
Others have connected to me before, so would it be better if I emailed him mine to host with, or is he going to get an error message if he tries to join me later?

This is so dang confusing.
Thanks, Corey

You got that error because there are no DE files in your System folder; they're in your Cache folder. You can either download and install the DE Bonus Pack or just get him to e-mail you his two files. The total file size is about 50k.

OR you could go into your Cache folder, open up Cache.ini and look for the two DE files. Then, find their Cache name (EX: b94v9b8bvv983d99) and then just rename the two files to de.int and de.u (making sure not the confuse the file extensions with each other) and then place them in your System folder.

I did have the 2 de files in my sys folder, they have been there for a few months since I installed the game and 4 bonus packs.

I backed mine up, and he emailed his two.
I put them in the sys folder and overwrote mine, and now I can host again, and also join into his hosted game without the error.

Bah, you just did that to be difficult... lol

Hey, I have demo manager, and I keep getting a strange gpf about some udemo thing, so I took the udemo.int and dragged it to the system folder and reconnected, and it worked.

Seems like dragging int files takes care of many things... (gets chain...)

The differnce is that some have the 'bonuspack' DE files, and some have the 'GOTY' DE files that came with the GOTY game.

Best way to solve the problem (if you dont use the DE mutator on your server that is) is to go to the UnrealTournament.ini file (or whatever ini file you use to fire up a UT server).
Look for this:

[Engine.GameEngine]
CacheSizeMegs=4
UseSound=True
ServerActors=IpDrv.UdpBeacon
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerQuery
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=unreal.epicgames.com MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=master0.gamespy.com MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=master.mplayer.com MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=UWeb.WebServer
ServerPackages=SoldierSkins
ServerPackages=CommandoSkins
ServerPackages=FCommandoSkins
ServerPackages=SGirlSkins
ServerPackages=BossSkins
ServerPackages=Botpack
ServerPackages=MultiMesh
ServerPackages=Relics
ServerPackages=EpicCustomModels
ServerPackages=TCowMeshSkins
ServerPackages=TNaliMeshSkins
ServerPackages=TSkMSkins
ServerPackages=De

REmove the ServerPackages=De entry...

This way, you wont get mismatches..

If you DO use the DE mutator on your server, use the above mentioned solutions....

Most UT servers delete the DE entry in the ini file because of the mismatches....

I have not heard of the de mutator.
All I do when I host is setup about 6 maps to rotate for CTF, and that is all.

It's not a didicated server either, I play also when I am hosting.
So I take it I can just delete that line then from my ini file.

Thanks, Corey

Jup, just delete it. That line tells your server to watch in the system folder of the clients (players loggin in) if they have de DE package, If they do, but the its a different DE file, they get the mismatch error.

By removing the entry, the server is not looking for the file.... So it cant mismatch...

The DE mutator is the volatail ammo/weapon mutator... i think...
